A Summary of the Nonattainment Status of the Criteria Air Pollutants


As of February 13, 2017, the EPA announced that the number of nonattainment areas are 41 ozone (8-hour 2008 standard), 35 ozone (8-hour 1997 standard), 35 sulfur dioxide (2010 standard), 9 sulfur dioxide (1971 standard), 37 PM-10, 8 PM-2.5 (1997 Standard), 16 PM-2.5 (2006 Standard), 9 PM-2.5 (2012 standard), 2 lead (original standard), and 20 lead (2008 Standard) in the United States. There are no CO and NO2 nonattainment areas in the United States. Maps of the ozone, carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, lead (2008), PM-10, and PM-2.5 nonattainment areas are available for review and download.
